It's that time of year; the time of year when we (as a general rule) get in the giving mood. We think of others; we get crazy looking for the perfect gift , the right card with the perfect sentiment; something that says all the things we didn't get a chance to say throughout the year.
I often wonder why we wait until "certain" times of the year to express our gratitude to the people we care about, the people we count on; the people we are grateful for. Why does there have to be a special "Hallmark" day to say thank you for being you or "I am so grateful for having you in my life or in my company". All too often we forget to say thank you to those who prop us up, those who stick by us during the lean years, the trials and tribulations; the hard times and the times when business is booming and we are just short handed so everyone is working overtime.
Well I would like to make a suggestion to all managers, supervisors, executives and CEO's out there; make a promise to yourself, to your employees, to your company; say thank you. Say it often and mean it. Say thank you for the little things, say than you for the big things; give a little recognition for the efforts of those who go above and beyond; show your employees you care that they are there. Show them you appreciate the hard work they do, the effort they put in and demonstrate your willingness to roll up your sleeves and get in there with them when needed. Be the difference in your employees you want to see.
Employees; make a promise to be consistent, to not give up on your managers, supervisors, executives and CEO's. Engage with them, talk with them, include them. Let them know what is going on in their company so they can make educated choices. Don't give up when you feel they haven't heard you; find another way to get the message to them. Sometimes when a door is stuck and won't open we have to find another way to get through; so keep working towards getting through that door.
I know it can be frustrating at times for both sides but ultimately you both want the same thing; a healthy and thriving company. So take this season as an opportunity for change and take that first step towards a better tomorrow. Extend a hand and make a connection that will build a bridge between thought and action that will create a solid foundation for your future.
I have been creating a soundtrack for Lighthouse for about two months now and each song I add has had something to with the people I have met or my recent interactions; this time I am adding a track that I feel is encouraging; one that touches a person deep inside. No matter who you are, what your background; you can relate and you can see how this track can fuel a brighter future for all if we just listen. Enjoy the track and have a safe and happy holiday.
